Storm-breakers! Those who have walked through the storms of life and made it to the other side.
Growing up in Southwest Missouri, storms were something I became accustomed to very early on in my childhood. Watching the storms roll in was one of my favorite things to do. There was something about the change in the atmosphere and the color of the sky. If you have lived in the mid-west, you understand the dramatic changes in weather at the drop of a hat. Just recently, we had a thunderstorm warning and a winter weather advisory in the same day. Needless to say, you have to make sure you are prepared for the potential elements and heed the warnings. Storms are not something taken lightly, they are fierce and violent, creating disturbance within the atmosphere. The same is true throughout the storms of life.
We all have encountered storms, whether big or small. The storms of life can bring a dark cloud over us, sometimes so intense we feel we cannot even breathe. Some of the storms linger and you feel you cannot shake them off. Many storms have the same characteristics, as those you’ve been through before and you can feel them starting to brew.
When you encounter a storm, how do you respond? Do you become immediately defeated or do you put on your “battle gear”?
Your response to the storm can impact the damage it creates. If you are immediately defeated and you allow the storm to push you from side to side. The wreckage will be severe, impacting not only you, but those around you. Yet, when you stop and take time to put on your “battle gear” and face the storm head on, you become a STORM-BREAKER! You may say,“What do you mean by storm-breaker?”
A storm-breaker is one who walks through the storms of life and comes out on the other side. They know the way through the wind and rain and how to take shelter and find rest. “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty”, Psalm 91:1. They feel the storms starting to brew and they take the warning signs seriously and prepare. Knowing at the end of the day they are an OVERCOMER! “Yet even in the midst of all these things, we triumph over them all, for God has made us to be more than conquerors, and his demonstrated love is our glorious victory over everything.” Romans 8:37
My encouragement to you when you face difficult times is to know that the storms are not there to destroy you. Instead of viewing them from a place of defeat and pain, prepare and view them as an opportunity to grow, promote, increase and strengthen you. You are an OVERCOMER! You are a STORM-BREAKER!
