Change is Hard

Okay, so you were all jazzed up about the lasting changes you wanted to start implementing this year, but you have hit a few road blocks. And you have come to the conclusion, “Why is change so hard?” Often times when you are changing a behavior or mindset you are also experiencing a loss, as you are letting go of something. And more than likely it was something that you really liked or it was so habitual it felt like it was a part of you. We are generally creatures of habit and we are not very good at letting go. As much as I love change, the truth is letting go may be one of the hardest things I’ve experienced.

Loss is deeper than just letting go; you are also pummeled by an onslaught of emotions with varying intensities. There may be fear of the unknown, anger at yourself for either allowing the habit or for not letting go of it, or you may just be utterly exhausted and fatigued. The good news is, you are not alone and pausing to reflect on what you are feeling and why will bring to light the areas you struggle with the most in regards to change. You are not only working through your current change, you are also building “muscle” and new brain maps to be ready for the next change that comes your way. You got this!
